'I've been stitched up!' Jason Gardiner is said to be furious after being replaced by Louie Spence as a judge on Dancing On Ice


Jason Gardiner has been left furious after being axed as a judge on Dancing On ice by Louie Spence.

The acid-tongued presenter is said to have told friends he feels 'stitched up' by ITV bosses' decision to replace him with Pineapple Dance Studios' Louie Spence.

It is believed executives decided to get rid of Gardiner following his controversial comments on the show, including when he was accused of 'bullying' former judge Karen Barber after telling her: 'If your opinion still mattered, you'd be on the panel'.


A source told the Daily Mirror: 'There have been criticisms that Jason had got too harsh, with many viewers questioning whether he was qualified to criticise ice skating.

'Viewers don't mind fair criticism but there is a real feeling that last year things went too far. It's likely to leave Jason feeling more than a bit red-faced after what he said to Karen last year.'

However, a source close to Gardiner insisted it was his decision to leave the series, adding: 'Negotiations were ongoing. ITV did initially try to reach agreement but there were stumbling blocks over pay and the producers' lack of commitment to him.

'Jason was annoyed that they didn't immediately give him their becaing for another series, but he's worried that viewers will think he's been dropped over the row with Karen last year - that is absolutely not the case.'

As well as Gardiner leaving the show, his fellow judge Emma Bunton is also off, with Olympic figure skating champion Katarina Witt taking her place.

Spence and Witt will be joining head judge Robin Cousins on the panel.

Spence - who has also hosted his own series Showbusiness - said: 'I'm looking forward to being part of such a challenging and spectacular show and can't wait to give my encouragement and critique on the contestants' dance and performance on the ice.'

New judge Witt dominated figure skating for more than a decade winning Olympic golds in 1984 and 1988, before going on to win an Emmy for the 1990 film Carmen on Ice.

She said: 'I can't wait to join the Dancing On Ice judging panel. As well as offering support and constructive advice to this year's celebrity skaters I'm also looking forward to working alongside my close friends Torvill and Dean.'

Talking of the new arrivals, ITV's controller of entertainment Layla Smith said: 'The pair have a wealth of experience which they will be bringing to the new series.

'Their unique flare and passion for their professions will doubtless make for some interesting debates.'

She added: 'We'd like to thank Emma Bunton and Jason Gardiner for their valued contribution during previous series and wish them both all the best with their future projects.'

Mother-of-two Bunton is leaving the series after two years as a judge. She said she wanted to concentrate on other things, including her Heart FM radio show and the launch of a children's clothing range.

She will also be involved with the launch of the musical Viva Forever! - based on the songs of The Spice Girls and written by Jennifer Saunders - in the West End next year.

Bunton - known for many years as Baby Spice - said: 'I loved working on Dancing On Ice; it was so much fun and I love the team.

'I made this decision as I have to prioritise all the exciting projects lined up for me next year, as well as my Heart FM radio show, and juggle these with being a busy mum.

'I wish everyone on the show the best of luck.'

The new series will see the return of head coach Karen Barber, to offer her expertise to the show's celebrity skaters, while former host Holly Willoughby will be replaced by Christine Bleakley.

Daybreak-up! Christine Bleakley bids an early goodbye to the morning flop... but £283,000 payout should help heal the pain

ITV's Daybreak has been a ratings disaster from day one, at first barely matching GMTV's audience, and finally flatlining at 700,000 viewers.

And in yet another embarrassing turn, presenters Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles will be dismissed a month early in a desperate bid to salvage any remaining hope for the programme.

But it's not all bad news for Christine, 32, as she will receive a generous payout of £283,000 to help soften the blow of her departure.

The presenter is clearly pleased with the outcome, and showed no signs of regret as she arrived at the Sky Women In Film And Television event at London's South Bank today.

Natasha Kaplinsky and Eamonn Holmes have emerged as frontrunners to take up the vacant presenting roles.

Christine and Adrian were expected to continue on Daybreak until Christmas or the New Year, but they will instead bow out on Monday and take the rest of the month off.

'It was felt that Adrian and Christine were better off out of there now that everyone knows they are going,' said an ITV insider.

'There’s nothing to be gained by keeping them on the sofa.'

ITV boss Peter Fincham stressed that the pair had been 'superb' presenters when he announced their departure last week.

Christine will be given her £283,000 by way of divided payment.

She and Adrian were poached from the BBC's The One Show in a deal worth a reported £4 million to her and £6 million to him, but are leaving after only 14 months.

It will be seen as a huge embarrassment for all concerned after the pair left BBC1's One Show in the summer of last year in what was seen at the time to be a huge coup for ITV.

The pair had won plaudits for their on-screen chemistry on The One Show and it was hoped they would recreate the magic in their new roles.

But within weeks of the Daybreak launch it was barely able to match GMTV's audience, and drawing only half that of rival BBC Breakfast.

It averaged 800,000 viewers in the past three weeks.

Fincham said: 'Adrian and Christine are both superb presenters.

'They have worked tirelessly to help establish Daybreak on ITV1 and they leave the show at a point when ratings have recently seen their biggest year-on-year increase.

'Adrian has had a hugely positive reception as the host of ITV's live football coverage since he joined us for the 2010 World Cup and I'm pleased that he will be at the helm of the UK's biggest free-to-air football offering, and will continue to present his successful That Sunday Night Show.'

Christine has been announced as the new co-presenter of Dancing on Ice alongside Phillip Schofield.

Her earnings have been boosted as she has been able to charge up to £15,000 per appearance for motivational speaking at business conferences.

She is also releasing a fitness DVD, Christine Bleakley - The Workout which will be available on Boxing Day.

Katie Price and Peter Andre settle Harvey case, as she apologises and agrees to pay undisclosed compensation

They live their life courting headlines, but Katie Price paid the price when she claimed Peter Andre did not love stepson Harvey as much as he said.

Today, the slander case was settled in the High Court as Price apologised for the 'hurt' her allegations caused.

She also agreed to pay undisclosed compensation and claims that he had an affair with his manager Claire Powell were withdrawn.

Andre was claiming damages and aggravated damages on the basis his ex-wife knowingly lied when she made her comments in Heat magazine.

In the 2009 interview, the 33-year-old model alleged Andre, 38, did not see Harvey as often as he claimed, claiming it was only about twice a fortnight.

The accusations came after Price was quizzed about Andre's latest single Unconditional, said to be about his love for nine-year-old Harvey.

Peter, who is currently in his native Australia appearing on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! is to put the money into a trust fund for Harvey.

Andre's solicitor Mike Brookes said his client launched proceedings as 'his relationship with his children and his reputation are important to him.'

He added: 'Ms Price accepts that the feelings for Harvey which Mr Andre expressed in the song were genuine and he was not being hypocritical.'

The Mysterious Girl singer also claimed damages for slander over comments made by Price on The Graham Norton Show in October 2009, in which she alleged he had an affair with his manager Clare Powell.

While the comments were not broadcast to the general public, they were overheard by the live audience, yet Mr Brookes said she now 'withdraws her claim unreservedly'.

Katie's solicitor Keith Ashby said she was happy to confirm 'that Mr Andre has been a good father to Harvey and has demonstrated his love for him on many occasions.'

Price, who also agreed to make a contribution to Andre's legal costs of the long running dispute estimated at £800,000, failed to appear at court for the hearing as she is in Dublin for a Lara's Boutique fashion launch event.

The couple who married in 2005 and divorced in October 2009 have two children of their own Junior, six, and three-year-old Princess; while Harvey is the son of former fling footballer Dwight Yorke.

Foundation transformation: How teen model with severe acne masks her scars with incredible make-up application

Like many of her peers Cassandra Bankson has had to spend her teenage years dealing with the blight of severe acne

And now the pretty 19-year-old now faces college and her future life with the constant awareness and pain of the skin condition.

But rather than letting it get her down, Cassandra has used it to her advantage - and has bravely taken to the internet to show off her make-up trickery that will help thousands of others to deal with the condition.

Her before and after broadcast of her foundation routine has been watched more than 1.7million times.

So expert is her scar-concealing make-up application that the Californian has become a model, her skin appearing flawless in her portfolio shots.


Wearing full make-up and looking picture-perfect, the Bay Area local explains to her many YouTube fans: 'I am the most self-conscious person about my face. The worst part about it, is its gotten a lot better. I mean it's a good thing to say but it still looks awful.'

Stripping back the expert layers of primers, foundation, powders and setting sprays, Cassandra goes from fully-made-up to make-up free - showing the extent of her pimpled and blemished skin.

The teen, a horse-back riding and hiking fan, returns to the camera in a bathrobe at her 'most insecure,' with bare skin and looking a very different person.

'I feel really disgusting,' she says, her nerves catching in her voice as she explains that 'this is probably the most nerve-wracking thing I could possibly do because it is my biggest insecurity... But this is my face.'

Honest: She is frank about the skin disorder, pointing out the extent of her acne and its unsightly spread


She goes to show the extent of the problem.

'The sad part is it's a lot better than it used to be. I mean it's still all over my chest, all over my back, it's everywhere and you can see it goes down my neck, it's all to the side, it even got on my ear.

'It's gotten a lot better but it's still really, really bad. It's my biggest insecurity.'

It is a far cry from the modelling portfolio shots that can be seen on her diamondsandheels14 channel on YouTube, where the striking, even-skinned brunette lounges on car bonnets, takes to the catwalk and poses in cut-out swimsuits.

The teen, whose series of short tutorial videos have been watched by over 4 million people, then takes viewers on a step-by-step lesson as to applying a perfect foundation that covers skin blemishes.

'I have extremely oily skin,' she says, giving tips about the primers and oil-reducing tricks.

She is filmed in her parents' lounge room, where the 'light is better,' the blurring of the video in parts and the family surroundings lending the films a home-spun, unintimidating credibility.

Applying liberal amounts of cosmetics, Cassandra seems well ahead of her years, confident and knowledgeable about the complex potions upon which she relies.

She is frank, even wry, about her spots: 'I always carry everything down my neck because, well, I have acne there.'

She has become something of a skin expert, with other videos explaining he physiology of skin and acne and the treatments that best target the skin condition.

By the end of the video, Cassandra is transformed - her flawless complexion giving no hint of the severe breakouts that come part-and-parcel of acne.

'Voila! I have somewhat clear looking skin,' she tells the camera.

'I hope that you guys enjoy this. I hope you can have flawless skin too.'

Filmed in 2010, Cassandra told MailOnline that she has since gone on to document her daily beauty juggle with acne, taking 'viewers with through the year long journey, showing they different products, different radical ideas, medications and holistic therapies.'

The student, who is studying to become a nurse, said: 'I hope to have the opportunity to bring advanced dermatology and skincare help to other teens and adults with this condition in the future - fixing it from the source.'

The fury Factor! Simon Cowell storms off refusing to speak to judges as Drew is eliminated, while Astro bows out of X Factor USA graciously

He still has Melanie Amaro and Rachel Crow in the competition so there’s still a good chance that Simon Cowell could win the X Factor USA with one of his acts.

But the music mogul was left furious and refused to speak to the other judges after his act Drew was sent home from the competition.

Drew and Marcus Canty found themselves fighting for the final place in the singing competition, but the 14-year-old failed to impress the other judges and was voted out of the competition along with Astro who had been told his fate earlier in the show.


Drew pleaded with the judges to save her ahead of her save me song and deplored: ‘I’m nervous and I just hope everybody can see me true talent and I hope that shows in my save me song.’

Trying to channel her emotions into her track Listen To Your Heart by Roxette Drew put all her effort into the performance but it was not enough to compete with Marcus’s rendition of Gladys Knight & The Pips' Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye).

Following the songs for survival LA was the first to select the person he wanted to stay and despite saying it was a difficult decision for him he predictably chose Marcus, whom he mentors.

Simon was up next and begged Paula and Nicole to save his act declaring that it was his fault she was in the sing off.

He explained: ‘The reason drew is in this position tonight is my fault I take total responsibility. I genuinely believe you deserve a second chance. I’m begging these two to give her another chance.’

With Simon choosing Drew to remain in the competition it was down to the girls to seal the fate of the acts.

Nicole explained that the decision was an extremely tough and emotional one for her to make and she told: ‘I know that I’ve been really hard on you the past few weeks but that’s only because you are the best and I believe in you.’

She told Marcus: ‘ When you sing I feel like your heart is on the floor for all to see.’

She reviewed: ‘I love and respect both of you.’

He replied: ‘I’ll say it backstage’, before adding that he thinks she is a star.

Simon also refused to speak to any of the other judges and looks furious.

He was told he had received the lowest votes but didn’t appear disheartened by the news.

Learning he was leaving he was seen clapping and hugging LA Reid.

In keeping with the Michael Jackson tribute theme from Wednesday night all contestants opened the show with a rendition of the King Of Pop's Man In the Mirror.

After the group song Rachel Crow, Melanie Amaro and Chris Rene were told they were safe from elimination.

Josh Krajcik is also safe and he and Marcus Canty are also in the final five and still in the running to bag the $5million recording contract.

Why last year's X Factor hopeful Gamu is glad she was abandoned by Cowell and Cheryl

Now and then: Gamu has a much more sassy style for her new album, left, and right, appearing on last year's X Factor


Not once has Gamu Nhengu been seen to rejoice over the accusations of sleaze, strife and crisis which have engulfed this year’s series of The X Factor; she’s far too nice a person to kick Mr Cowell in the shiny white teeth when he is down.

But, in her own quiet way, it’s clear that she is having the last laugh.

Gamu was, of course, last year’s cannon fodder: everyone was astonished when Cheryl Cole sent her home at the judges’ houses stage in favour of her ‘mini-me’ Cher Lloyd.


In the days that followed it emerged that Gamu’s family were staying in the UK on an expired visa.

The Home Office moved to expel them and it looked as if Gamu’s bid for fame was to cost them everything. She said that if she was sent back to Zimbabwe she’d face Mugabe’s firing squads.

It was the cause celebre of the series - thousands signed Facebook petitions to support her. Simon Cowell said that he would help every way he could.

But, having kept her own counsel since then, Gamu now reveals that actually after Cheryl dismissed her from the competition she never heard from her or Cowell again.

The idea that Cowell was going to lend the family the free services of his legal team to fight for her right to remain in the country also seems to have been a complete invention.

‘But then, why would they remain in touch once I’d been evicted from the show?’ asks Gamu. ‘It wasn’t an easy experience but I’m able now to look back on it from a distance and see what it gave me, and I’m grateful for that.’

What it gave her, she says, is a better understanding of the way that showbusiness works - which you may well decode as an understanding that there may be a show of sympathy, but it’s still just a business.

Perhaps this philosophical bent is possible now because the crisis is coming to an end and she is in the process of getting her passport and launching her musical career without the X Factor boss.

After she left the reality show, Gamu's family was told that they would have to leave the UK because their visa had expired.

And now after many twists and turns on the road to a green light to stay in the UK, her manager John Richardson has confirmed to me that Gamu’s right to stay has come through. She will become a full British citizen.

She must be delighted, I suggest. ‘The matter is closed, so I won’t comment,’ she replies, wary of causing a fuss.

It’s a rare piece of good news for the singer, now 20 years old, who suffered an emotional collapse after her X Factor disaster.

She had been led to believe that her performances had been enough to keep her in the competition. Indeed she had seemed to be one of the very strongest contenders with her powerful voice.

But Cher Lloyd, who snuffled and trembled through her song, laid low with a throat infection, was preferred. Gamu says that at the time she was completely dumbstruck and believed that her dreams of making it as a singer were at an end. She wept for weeks.

Now she says she feels that the rejection makes sense and she understands that it might be possible to make it as a singer without being an X Factor artist.

She tells me: ‘I can see now why it happened. I didn’t have the right street image like Cher. I just didn’t fit the bill for Cheryl.

'It’s not easy but I understand that it’s a competition and that is the way it goes. I hold no ill feeling.’

Although Gamu was told in the initial weeks after losing out that many major record labels wanted to sign her up, nothing came of it. Instead she has watched as her peers on the show release records.

She was, like all contestants, compelled to sign a management agreement with the company which manages all X Factor artists, which meant that she could be kept in obscurity by the Cowell machine.

John Richardson says: ‘They tell them to sit there and shut up. I think that for six months she was basically waiting for something to happen.

'We sent her management dozens of emails and didn’t get a single response. We had a proposal which would have netted her £25,000 but we didn’t hear a peep back.

‘Earlier this year Gamu asked to be released, and now at last she is free.’

Since escaping the clutches of the show she has got a publishing deal, and a record deal, and has spent the past couple of months in the studio making an album.

About half of the songs are written by her, and she describes them as ‘pretty old school, with a very classic Motown feel’.

One of her collaborators is Lamont Dozier, a Motown legend who wrote for The Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas and the Four Tops. He has written a song for her, which is quite a coup.

The album should be released in March next year. It’s a long time, of course, since October 2010 when she was big news, but Gamu’s big break might finally be about to arrive.

Even Victoria's husband David revealed in a recent interview that Harper is already the proud owner of an ever-growing wardrobe, telling Us Magazine: 'She has so many little dresses.'

The LA Galaxy star also revealed that Victoria isn't the only one who has been treating Harper to new items, adding: 'I didn't realise how excited I would get over buying hair bows.'

Since her birth in July, Victoria has been dressing Harper in the trendiest children's wear, with brands favoured including Stella McCartney, French label Bonpoint and Marie-Chantal - a children's clothing brand owned and designed by the Crown Princess of Greece.

Victoria also splurged on a pair of £30 Chloé tights for her adorable little girl last month.

But if Victoria's rumoured plans for a line of children's clothing collection go ahead, it won't be long before Harper is decked out head-to-toe in apparel designed by her talented mother.

According to sources, Victoria has been sketching early designs on the collection, and is firmly fixed on producing a line of children's clothes that will reflect her family life.

She is said to be keen to set the ball rolling as soon as possible.

'Now Victoria has a family of boys and girls she wants to reflect that in her fashion work and produce a line of clothes for children too,' a source told Showbiz Spy.

'In some of her down time with Harper Victoria has been jotting down drawings and coming up with ideas for kids' clothes that are practical but fun too.

'David is really excited about the line too and Victoria can’t wait to get going on the project.'

Victoria's designs were given the ultimate recognition earlier this week when she took home the Designer Brand of the Year prize at the British Fashion Awards.

Accepting her prize, an emotional Victoria broke down in tears before apologising to the star-studded audience.
